Sleepy Hollow is a lovely village 26 miles north of New York City on the Hudson River, named for Washington Irving's famous story. It can be separated into the residential areas of Philipse Manor with streets neatly laid out in a grid, and the hilly, more wooded Sleepy Hollow Manor AND a busy village center on Beekman Street. Formerly North Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow was renamed several years ago to reconnect with its illustrious past and forge a separate identity from its close neighbor, Tarrytown. Sleepy Hollow's history is among the richest of any village in the United States and is reflected in it's wealth of historical sties and architecture-from places important in colonial times such as Philipsburg Manor, and the Old Dutch Church, to the stately homes built in "the Manors." Plans are underway at the former site of the General Motor's plant in Sleepy Hollow for a major waterfront development project with parks, retail shops and condos. Sleepy Hollow has a wide-range of housing options-from apartments, multi-family dwellings to sumptuous, antique homes.
